Oudtshoorn's early fortunes, evident by some magnificent Victorian
Sandstone homesteads, arose from the popularity of ostrich feathers
in the era. With the downfall of this trade, the ostrich is more of
a tourist attraction at present, with the popular ostrich rides and
ostrich products like meat, ornamental eggs and leather goods.
Nearby are the Cango Caves. These Caves are world renowned for
their beautiful stalagmites and stalactites and are a hugely
popular tourist attraction, well worth a visit. Other attractions
in the area include camel riding and the wildlife ranch with its
cheetahs and leopards.
