Montagu is a small country village with its share of restored
national monuments and an old world charm, somehow untouched by the
bustling world around it. It is an interesting village prepared for
the tourist with excellent accommodation and activities which range
from hot springs, mountain biking, hiking and rock climbing to the
legendary tractor-trailer ride up the Langeberg mountains.
Montagu is really in the Karoo but more often than not is visited
by those exploring the Breede River Valley.
The drive to Montagu, through the Cogmanskloof pass with
its large volcanic rock formations, through the tunnel on which is
perched an ancient fortification, is definitely worth seeing.
