What are we about?
South Africa is a large country and one of the areas where we make a mistake in our international marketing is that regions and cities often compete with eachother resulting in confusion in the market place. We believe that the Western Cape & Eastern Cape should cooperate far more closely in marketing as their combined tourism assets go a long way to being an international destination in themselves.
For a host of reasons, it is unlikely that the provincial tourism bodies of these two provinces will embrace eachother and embark on joint marketing initiatives in the short to medium term. GWEMA, a private industry initiative, is an attempt to kick-start this vision with the ultimate goal being joint national and international marketing of our two provinces by our two provincial governments. We have produced this map as a start in the long road of reaching a point where joint generic marketing is done for us by our respective provinces.
These maps, which combine the Western Cape, Garden Route and Eastern Cape, offer some handy travel tips to make your guests' visit to these areas as hassle-free as possible. We feel that by bringing together these 3 areas and having them in one handy publication, it can only benefit the region as a whole. Generic marketing takes a long time, and the second step in the process is to get the GWEMA website to become a source of reference for potential visitors to our regions.
